The Women of Chapman enjoy a Wildflower Linen Fashion Runway Show

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Youngsong Martin, owner and principal designer of Wildflower Linen has done it again with another successful fashion runway show, taking place in Orange County, CA for guests of the Women of Chapman organization.

Nearly 70 seats were filled for an afternoon of fabulous decor, amazing food and a special treat as they witnessed  gorgeous models wearing dozens of different designer dresses created by Youngsong Martin.  The Wildflower Linen Fashion Runway Show began 2 years ago and continues to be a highlight for event functions and fundraisers.  It wouldn’t be significant without its signature concept; every model is “draped and pinned” with an ACTUAL table linen or chair cover that would otherwise be used as a rental for an event.   Models not only have 2 minutes between walks to get dressed, but Youngsong must also pin and prep them for stage…. from Table Linen straight into Dress Linen, literally.   It’s a feat that we must say even the top designers in the nation would have a hard time topping.  You thought 24 hours was difficult to make a dress, try a few minutes!  Move over Project Runway and make room for Wildflower Linen – YSM’s Runway!

Here’s a sneak peak of the event courtesy of Elysium Productions:

THE INVITATION:

THE DECOR:

The event took place in one of Orange County, CA’s newest up and coming location, SOCO Collections.   Wildflower Linen dressed the tables in a delicate lavender tone using carolyn lace caps and a variety of lace chair covers to seat nearly 70.  With the help of wedding coordinator, Carolyn Chen from The Special Day, the event ran smoothly while the decor was stunning!  Florals in light pastel colors & soft candlelight were created by The Mille Fiore while menu and paper goods from Cherish Paperie were the perfect touch to round out the decor.  Culinary creations by Good Gracious! Events included Sweet Pea & Caprese Salad, Pan Roasted Lemon Pepper Salmon Roulade and an Espresso Cappuccino Milkshake Float.

ABOUT THE WOMEN OF CHAPMAN:

Women of Chapman is a vibrant group of philanthropic-minded women who are strongly dedicated to a program of service to Chapman University. Members enjoy a number of educational and fashion-oriented programs throughout the year, including the group’s signature fundraising event, Christmas at The Ritz (internal link to Christmas at The Ritz page.) Starting with just 35 members when it was founded in 1971, the group now comprises more than 220 Women of Chapman.

Over the past four decades, Women of Chapman has given nearly $5 million in gifts to support Chapman University. Gifts from Women of Chapman have been designated for student scholarships and various programs and capital campaigns across campus.

The group’s recent $1.5 million pledge of support to two major capital campaigns is the largest in Women of Chapman history. This gift will name the Women of Chapman Center Stage in the state-of-the-art new Center for the Arts and the Women of Chapman Open-Air Bridge in Millennial Studios, the planned expansion of Dodge College’s Marion Knott Studios.

Notable gifts to Chapman University include:
Women of Chapman Endowed Filmmaker Fund, which supports senior film projects for students in Dodge College of Film and Media Arts
Scholarship support over the years to World Campus Afloat (Semester at Sea) and later to Chapman’s general scholarship fund
Dr. Albert Schweitzer public exhibit (located in Argyros Forum)
The Fashionables Courtyard and Sacred Mound Garden in the Fish Interfaith Center
The Fashionables Terrace in the Leatherby Libraries
The Fashionable Women of Chapman Rotunda Boardroom and Terrace in Marion Knott Studios

An Excerpt from History of Women of Chapman
Written by Donna Bunce

We have given Chapman University close to $5 million dollars, most notably since “Christmas at The Ritz” was launched, which has allowed The Fashionable Women of Chapman – we did change our name about 10 years ago – to give $250,000 to the Leatherby Libraries, $1 million to the building of Marion Knott Studios, home of the amazing Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, with another $1 million pledged to an endowment that will fund senior film projects for Dodge College students. And, that’s not all… since we are close to fulfilling that million-dollar endowment pledge, our board just approved a $1 million pledge to Chapman’s proposed Center for the Arts naming the Women of Chapman Center Stage, and $500,000 to the building of Dodge College’s Millennial Studios and the naming of the Women of Chapman Open-Air Bridge.

Today, we stand at a membership of 220, with a group of impassioned women “running the show.” I do want to thank our group’s presidents who carried on after Mary Lou passed the torch. You are all responsible for keeping this group viable and fun. Mary Dell Barkouras, Joan Riach-Gayner, the late Betty Belden Palmer, Adrienne Brennan, Karen Elliott, Leslie Cancellieri, Charlene Prager, and Adrienne again this year — and I had a two-year stint in there as well.

Our programs have become legendary, from visiting Tony Duquette’s legendary Dawnridge estate in Beverly Hills and meeting His Imperial Royal Highness Archduke Dr. Geza von Habsburg, the curator of Fabergé and the great-great-grandson of Austrian Emperor Franz-Joseph, to meeting Tony Bill, producer of the The Sting, winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1973, and making fools of ourselves creating our own commercials while Dodge College film students filmed and edited us.

The friendships formed here are deep-felt and solid. I love this group because it is not a stereotype. There are ladies of all ages and all walks of life in the Women of Chapman, our official name as of July 1st, who have a common vision to help make Chapman University the best it can be. And, we are busting our buttons that Chapman has been selected as one of America’s finest universities – and also as one of the “Best in the West” – in the 2011 edition of the independent education services company Princeton Review, and continues to be counted among the best in the nation by the prestigious U.S. News & World Report. Now, that’s impressive!

    Thursday, November 17th, 2011

As MILLIONS of fans get an afternoon nap today to prepare for the midnight showing of The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn: Part 1, Wildflower Linen is pleased to announce that not only will our linens be featured in the movie during the long anticipated wedding scene of Edward and Bella, but our linens also decorated the After Party at the World Premiere of the movie at Nokia Theatre/LA Live this past Monday night!

Wildflower Linen was invited to attend the movie premiere and after party.  Although we can’t spill on the details of the movie itself, we can say that Twihard fans will not be disappointed!

See an Excerpt from LA Weekly Blog - Kathy A McDonald:  The film’s towering, flower-covered prop wedding cake, surrounded by moist red velvet cupcakes, was the appropriate and much photographed centerpiece. Veteran movie premiere and film business caterer Mary Micucci of Along Came Mary provided the vittles and stocked the overflowing buffet stations. Overall production and design was by Chad Hudson Events. On the rooftop of the LA Live parking lot and oft-used event deck, Hudson’s firm recreated the wedding set, complete with draping flower garlands flown in from Europe, a wall-sized waterfall and other picturesque Twilight honeymoon vignettes.

Celebs that attended included: Robert PattinsonTaylor Lautner, Kristen StewartAshley Greene, Nikki Reed, Kellan LutzJackson Rathbone and many of cast members of the movie.  Other celebs included Bruno Mars, Rob Lowe, Alyssa Milano, Marlon Wayans (of the Wayans Brothers),  Jennifer Love Hewitt, Danica Patrick, members of the cast of the CW’s 90210 and Vampire Diaries and many more!

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wildflower Linen is official licensee of linens, bedding, and home décor inspired by Summit Entertainment’s  “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 1”

Renowned special-event designer Youngsong Martin and her company Wildflower Linen™ are no strangers to Hollywood glamour, having created high-fashion décor for the post-Oscars Governor’s Ball, Vanity Fair after-parties and such red-carpet galas as a world-premiere bash at the Venice Film Festival in Italy.  Youngsong’s elegant table linens and accessories decorated the long-awaited wedding of Bella and Edward, in the fourth installment of Summit Entertainment’s international blockbuster film franchise, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” which is in theaters starting November 18, 2011.

Now, thanks to a unique licensing collaboration between Wildflower Linen and Summit Entertainment, fans of the movies’ legendary romance, passion and intrigue can bring “Twilight Saga” inspired fashion décor into their own home.  As an official licensee of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” Wildflower Linen has created an exclusive, themed line of glamorous table linens, chair covers, napkins, and tabletop accessories inspired by the actual linens used in the film. These collections were all created and designed by Youngsong Martin.

Wildflower Linen’s “Twilight Saga” inspired decor items debuted recently at the celebrity-studded “Official Twilight Convention” at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, which was attended by the stars of the films, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Fan reaction to Youngsong Martin’s new line of themed table linens, chair covers and home décor accessories was overwhelmingly positive.

“I am so excited to be returning to my fashion-design retailing roots by marketing these new ‘Twilight Saga’ inspired products for fans who would love to infuse their own celebrations with the ‘Twilight’ touch,” Martin remarked.

Product descriptions, specifications, prices and availability information will soon be provided at Wildflower Linen’s website, www.wildflowerlinens.com.  Retailers and prospective purchasers also can obtain information about the official “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” linen products by contacting Wildflower Linen’s headquarters at (714) 522-2777 or twilight@wildflowerlinens.com.

The next chapter of “The Twilight Saga” will be released as two separate films with the first of the two – “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” – slated to be released in theatres on November 18, 2011 and the second coming to theatres on November 16, 2012.  Academy Award® winner Bill Condon directed both films starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.  In “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” Bella (Stewart) and Edward (Pattinson), plus those they love, must deal with the chain of consequences brought on by a marriage and honeymoon, and the tumultuous birth of a child… which brings an unforeseen and shocking development for Jacob Black (Lautner).  With more of the romance, passion, intrigue and action that made “Twilight,” “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” and “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” worldwide blockbusters, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1”, based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling book series, begins the conclusion of the tale of vampire love, boundless friendship, acceptance, and finding your true self.  The project, based on the fourth novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, is written by Melissa Rosenberg with Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Stephenie Meyer producing.

About Youngsong Martin and Wildflower Linen: Since launching Wildflower Linen in 2001, Youngsong Martin has been celebrated for redefining the concept of “designer” rental linens while creating special-event decor for presidential mansions, famed party planning professionals, style-conscious wedding hosts, the U.S. State Department, red carpet events of all kinds, and such superstars as Oprah Winfrey and Elton John. The former women’s apparel designer has also developed a nationwide clientele for her Southern California-based rental company while launching six high-style Wildflower Linen showrooms in Orange County, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, Scottsdale, Arizona, and Utah’s renowned Deer Valley-Park City alpine resort area. Youngsong Martin’s international acclaim has grown meanwhile through décor consulting alliances with major hospitality businesses overseas. Youngsong also has appeared in several design-oriented reality TV and documentary series and on radio and TV shows internationally.

About Summit Entertainment: Summit Entertainment LLC is a worldwide theatrical motion picture development, financing, production and distribution studio. While handling all aspects of marketing and distribution for its own internally developed productions and acquired pictures, Summit Entertainment also oversees international sales for its own and third-party products. The studio releases 10 to 12 films annually on average.

A San Francisco City Hall Wedding

    Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Not much needs to be said about this over-the-top elegant wedding that took place at City Hall in San Francisco last year…the pictures speak for themselves.

    COCKTAIL:

The Cocktail Area was filled with a Thailand inspired theme to pay homage to the Bride’s  family roots.   This included 2 - 4 foot tall floral elephant structures that greeted you in the entryway,  hundreds of hanging orchids, custom Thai inspired furniture and artifacts, and a 15 foot custom made tree used for the escort cards.

Thousands of flowers were used for this event including building the archway to the Rotunda at City Hall, one of San Francisco’s most beautiful buildings.  5 foot table centerpieces, mercury glassware and  an over abundance of florals covered every table.  The linen rentals used to dress up the tables were our Shantung Amethyst for the table linen and napkins as well as our Winston Napkin Rings made up of silver crystals.

    AFTER DINNER PaRtY:

Not only was there dancing on a custom dance floor and stage, vignettes in the bride and groom’s favorite eats were created for guest to enjoy some late night snacks.  This included a pub with a variety of the groom’s favorite liquor, a sushi vignette and an adorable patisserie in honor of the bride’s favorite goodies.   Gloria of Gloria Wong Design created the whole atmosphere and design for the entire wedding while Jubilee of Jubilee Lau Events facilitated the planning and logistics for this large scale event.   And last but not least, guess who else joined the party??? – none other than the Village People!

    Celebrity Weddings and Over-The-Top Designs…

    Friday, August 19th, 2011

In honor of Kim Kardashian’s  upcoming wedding to Kris Humphries tomorrow, Wildflower Linen would like to do a tribute to celebrity weddings and amazing over-the-top designs.  We also can’t help but to mention that all brides, whether a celeb or not, should have designer table linen and chair cover rentals in their decor to make their wedding an ultimate masterpiece!

From the sweet whimsical details of Carrie Underwood and Hilary Duff to the elegance of Ivanka Trump and Nicole Richie, there have been so many beautiful weddings with gorgeous decor and style.

Carrie Underwood Photos via Hollywood Dame

    Hilary Duff – OK! Magazine

    Ivanka Trump – Just Jared

    Nicole Richie – People Magazine

This is the perfect time to share the feature wedding of John and Allyson… winner of the show Bridalplasty which was featured earlier this year on E! Entertainment.  This is the piece de resistance to over-the-top glam weddings.

The wedding took place at a beautiful estate in Malibu, called Villa Cascata and with the help of event planner Jessica,  from Events By Design, we were able to get a lot of great details about the whole event!

Guests enjoyed a lovely ceremony and a gorgeous cocktail area filled with Moroccan flair and a green motif to enhance the amazing view of the pool area.   Along the path were a bunch of little Moraccan sitting areas which encouraged guests to sit and soak in the view.

The planner hung feather escort cards in gorgeous large birdcages and place it over looking the ocean, on the path to the reception tent.  Besides the food, Good Gracious!  catering created the signature drink of the event which was a delicious blueberry purple basil mojito.  The entire menu was designed to please  any palate with lots of good eats.   Appetizers consisted of goodies such as Mac N Cheese Cupcakes, Caesar Salad Cones & Short Rib Popovers.

THE  RECEPTION TENT:  Rrivre Davies of Rrivre Works was the head decor designer for the event.  He created not only the details of the cocktail hour, but also one of the most amazing over the top tents we’ve ever seen.   Rrivre draped the entire inside of the tent in silver fabric and accented the space with gold mirrors and crystal chandeliers.  There were even mirrors on the ceiling!   One side of the tent was covered in gold mirrors but the other half was covered in gold windows so guests could continue to enjoy the ocean view until the sun went down.  A custom bar was even created to keep with the rest of the decor style.

Wildflower Linen used 2 types of linens and chair cover rentals that were in the same color tones.  This made for more interest within the tent space.  We used a new linen called the  Hanae Silver Linen and paired it with the Curly Willow Lavender Chair caps.  We then used a more natural linen called the Homestead in Grey to compliment the more detailed Coquette Lavender Chair sleeve.

Sweetheart Table – Do something fun and interesting if you plan on being the center of attention!  Here, the glass table with gold fixtures held it’s own with these delectable chair covers.  This would be a great place to use designer chair cover rentals in the colors of your event as a special bride and grooms chair.

Katie Gaines from eitak Designs designed the invitations and made the menu cards more interactive by creating a scroll style that guests could open.  The amazing florals were from LA Premier.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Polo Match Luncheon

    Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Wildflower Linen has finally been approved to share our excitement over having provided the linens for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Polo Match Luncheon sponsored by Tiffany & Co.  The event was held at the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club in Carpinteria, CA on July 9, 2011.  The polo match and luncheon event, called The Foundation Polo Challenge, was held to support the American Friends of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

Prince William took to the field himself during the match and scored 4 goals, which led his team to victory with the score of 5-2.  His beauitful wife, Kate Middleton presented him with the trophy.  Many celebrities were in attendance including Joe Jonas, Zoe Saldana, Rob Lowe, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Rosario Dawson and Molly Sims. He made a lovely speech after the match.

After the match, the day’s festivities continued with an exclusive private reception and a three-course luncheon created by celebrity chef Giada de Laurentiis.  She served over 3,600 people at this luncheon.  Celebrity event planner Brian Worley from Your Bash!, recently known for his work on the CW’s Shedding for the Wedding,  was on hand to make the event as seamless and beautiful as the guest of honors.

Wildflower Linen made a speciality linen in pristine white for the Royal Family while the light blue linens were presented by Tiffany & Co.  Wildflower Linen custom fabricated our linens with imported yarn of only the highest quality for this event.  White peonies were the centerpiece florals of choice.  This high-profile event not only raised funds for two important charities, but also kicked off the 2011 summer polo season as well as celebrated the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club’s Centennial.  Tickets for the match and the lunch went up to $4,000 a piece.  It was truly a Royal Affair!
