Gatsby Fever Continues – A Three Part Feature in Style Unveiled

After just having featured a recent blog about the Great Gatsby & Chanel inspired tablescapes and decor, we realize this is just the beginning of Gatsby Fever!

Wildflower Linen is so excited to be a part of a tremendous team of vendors that participated in a modern day Great Gatsby Wedding Inspiration Photo Shoot that was featured in not 1 or 2, but a 3 part series on Style Unveiled. Here are some of the highlights from the amazing spread.

Candice and Christian of Amore Wedding Photography and Leila of Brilliant Event Design set out to create a modern take on the luxurious lifestyle portrayed in both the Great Gatsby novel and the recent film. They effortlessly incorporated elements that reflected all of the opulence, decadence and glamour that defined the era and created a truly inspired Gatsby themed wedding photo shoot.

Fashion:

Baz Luhrmann’s reinterpretation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, brought with it a renewed excitement for the glitz and glamour of the 1920′s into fashion and weddings. Let’s take a walk through the exquisite gowns and fashion used for the shoot!

Excerpt from Style Unveiled (italicized):

With the help of all of the gals over at Here Comes The Bride, we were able to style our each of our brides in two separate 1920s/Gatsby inspired looks. Our first Bride initially wore a very glamorous Lazaro gown that was completely covered in delicate beadwork and rhinestones. We paired the couture dress with a gorgeous rhinestone head piece worn to the side. With her next look, our first bride then changed into a Pronovias beaded sheath dress that was very reminiscent of 1920s fashion with a drop waist, high neckline that draped slightly over her shoulders. To finish off this more authentic 1920s look, we styled her in an Erica Koesler Juliet cap made of intricate lace, beaded pearls and feathers.

Location & Decor:

The gorgeous location, Villa de Flores, created a beautiful backdrop with its manicured garden designed by Shellene Mueller while the mansion included classical elements similar to the architecture of a home reflected in the Gatsby movie.

Many of the lavish parties described in the novel and film take place outside Gatsby’s mansion, so it only makes sense to have a Gatsby inspired wedding at a private estate in Rancho Santa Fe where there are a variety of lovely garden settings all covered in white flowers and which at night would be illuminated by thousands of tiny white twinkle lights. All of the white flowers in bloom were an added bonus since they were all in full bloom, and as you know, white flowers are Daisy Buchanan’s favorite color of flowers and are described in one of the novel and film’s most memorable scenes where Daisy and Jay see each other again for the first time since he has become the high society man he set out to be in order to win her heart. Daisy Buchanan’s love of white flowers inspired us throughout all of the bridal, ceremony and reception florals provided by Modern Bouquet; the white flower motif can be found throughout all of the sets created for this wedding.

Brilliant Event Design created the ceremony and the reception areas with an Art Deco and Modern Feel making the “overall structure of the design more masculine with soft feminine overtones”. She and her team achieved this by using a mix of metallic metals including golds, silver, pewter and onyx paired with glass, mirrored mercury, beading and crystals. Wildflower Linen used champagne decorative chair sashes for the ceremony to give a soft and simple touch. Being that many of the lavish parties described in the novel took place in tents it made perfect sense to have a tent house our reception area.

The table shimmered in a lovely linen from Wildflower Linen and the chair covers could not have been more perfect; very Art Deco with the hanging beads and architectural angles. Square and circle sunburst frames hung from the bride and groom’s chairs and tied in nicely with the theme and the cut of the chair covers. The floral arrangements created by Modern Bouquet cascaded down both sides of the table creating a sense of movement and decadence.

Each setting had three napkins wrapped and draped around gold and silver square plates that sat on gold beaded chargers. The menus, designed by Brilliant Event Design, were wrapped in a white and gold floral fabric and accented with a metal brooch and gold ribbon. The font and motifs on the menus and seating cards are Art Deco. Gold flatware called “Deco” from Classic Party Rentals added the perfect touch. Candles set in goblets of gold and silver and mirrored mercury votives are distributed throughout the table adding sparkle.

The wedding cake was set up in the rose arbor with a chandelier hung above with beautiful rosette patterned floor length linen that draped over the entire cake table. The design of the cake, by Sweet Cheeks Baking Company, ties in with the design and decor of the reception and menus. The four tier round cake with a white base has accents of gold and silver with a different treatment and design for each tier. A perfect combination of delicate floral, bling accents, draped pearls and ribbon with a brooch.
