Turning a Corner

This year, Wildflower Linen designed a table at the Girari’s Tabletop Shootout. The event brought together nine top tabletop, event and floral designers who gathered at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles to interpret an event tabletop using one of Girari’s beautiful glass tables. I chose one of their newest creations — the Penta table. Try creating linen for a table with five obtuse angles! But rather than ignore them, I faced the corners head on and used a hand-bustle technique I’ve been incorporating into several of my designs (notably, the Parachute and Charlotte designs that I’ve written about on my blog. See post of May 30). The effect was highly dramatic and added another layer of texture to the tabletop.

I began Wildflower Linen in 2001 after a career in fashion design. In that world, one goes to a lot of events and it seemed that although textiles are very important to that industry, that so much more could be done with the most important (and abundant) elements in the room -- tables and chairs. So, I literally brought all my ideas to the proverbial table and haven't looked back.
